Sacred Sword Interview

The Interview — Sacred Sword: On Solitude, Fading Grandeur, and the Eternal Realm

Interviewee: Sacred Sword (American mythic atmospheric black metal entity)  —  Publication: Athenaeum Of Sin Reviews

Sacred Sword Sacred Sword is a solitary atmospheric black metal entity that merges mythic storytelling, melancholic atmosphere, cinematic scope, and emotional introspection into a world shaped by fading kingdoms, solitude, and resistance against collapse.

This interview descends into the world of The Eternal Realm Falls. Across thirteen questions, we explore the origins of the project, the role of narrative and atmosphere, the emotional foundations beneath the Eternal Realm, the balance between aggression and melancholy, and the solitary creative process that shapes Sacred Sword’s vision.

Thirteen Questions constructed through mythic atmosphere & fading grandeur.

Q1: For those entering the mythic world of Sacred Sword for the first time, can you introduce the project and explain what its music and vision are fundamentally about?

Sacred Sword: Sacred Sword is about making each song feel like a story. Both within the lyrics and in the structures of the song I want the listener to feel transported into this world.

When writing each track I think of it almost like a soundtrack to this tale I’m creating.

Q2: Sacred Sword feels steeped in solitude, sorrow, and fading grandeur. What first inspired you to create this world?

Sacred Sword: I created Sacred Sword to explore some different musical elements that I don’t use in my other projects. I was inspired by thoughts of wanting to write a few short stories but the ideas felt empty to me without having music behind it hence I decided to build this world through Sacred Sword.

Q3: The project revolves around a lone knight standing against corruption within the Eternal Realm. What does this central figure represent to you personally?

Sacred Sword: This figure represents the common people and the struggle we all face dealing with a world of corruption and war. I’ve always found stories of the lone gunman in westerns or the hero honorable knight fascinating and I wanted to bring my take on it to light. This knight is flawed and his path is a lonely and unforgiving one yet he forges on. To me and I hope to other’s his tale will inspire hope.

Q4: Sacred Sword carries a deeply cinematic and narrative-driven atmosphere. How important is storytelling within your creative process?

Sacred Sword: Storytelling is my main goal with Sacred Sword. I want the listener to feel a range of emotions and to feel like they can imagine the Eternal Realm and the plight of this lone Knight.

Q5: Your music balances aggression with melancholy, while layered keys and strings create a sense of ancient dread and collapse. How do you approach building that emotional contrast within your sound?

Sacred Sword: I start off with writing my rhythm guitar parts yet I have keys and strings in mind so I can leave space for them. Once I have the skeleton of the song I experiment with sounds and see what captures the mood of the story I want to tell. Just like people can feel many emotions at once I want my songs to convey multiple emotions and atmospheres.

Q6: The Eternal Realm Falls introduces listeners to the world of Sacred Sword. Why did you choose this particular moment within the Eternal Realm as the project’s opening chapter?

Sacred Sword: “The Eternal Realm Calls…” is a great introduction to this project and the story I’m telling as it introduces the Knight and explains the challenges he faces and who he fights for. The song ends with the line “This weight I carry, of steel and glory. A vow unbroken, death and honor” Stating that he will carry this weight for the common people and will not forsake his vow to protect them even through death.

Q7: Sacred Sword is a solitary creation. How does working alone shape the emotional depth and creative feedom of the project?

Sacred Sword: Working alone can be daunting in some aspects as I’ve always been and am currently a member of bands with multiple people. I always want to challenge myself as a songwriter and this allows me to grow as a musician and to showcase all my personal influences.

Q8: Many atmospheric black metal projects lean heavily into fantasy aesthetics, yet Sacred Sword feels emotionally grounded beneath its mythic surface. Do you see the Eternal Realm as pure mythology, or as a reflection of real-world emotions and experiences?

Sacred Sword: The Eternal Realm is definitely a reflection of real-world emotions and experiences. When the album comes out you’ll see themes of war, mental challenges, and moral quandaries all reflected in the songs themes.

Q9: The atmosphere within Sacred Sword often feels vast, dreamlike, and ancient. When composing, do visual landscapes and imagined scenes guide the music, or does the music itself reveal the world as it unfolds?

Sacred Sword: It’s a bit of both as I start writing parts an image starts to form and I mold the music towards what that image is and the story I want to convey. It’s very important to me that the listener can picture a certain landscape when hearing the songs.

Q10: The Eternal Realm Falls carry strong symbolic and narrative weight. How essential are titles and imagery when shaping the identity of a composition?

Sacred Sword: I think a title can be very important when shaping a composition especially when telling a story. When you read “The Eternal Realm Calls…” I want the listener to feel like they are be summoned to this new world and that its only just beginning.

Q11: When listeners step into the world of Sacred Sword, what kind of emotional or psychological journey do you hope they experience?

Sacred Sword: I hope the listener feels emotion and can imagine some sort of world. Like reading a book the reader always has their own way of picturing the world, I strive for the same things with Sacred Sword and the Eternal Realm.

Q12: Corruption and evil stand at the heart of Sacred Sword’s mythology, opposed only by a solitary knight. What draws you toward themes of resistance, sacrifice, and standing alone against overwhelming darkness?

Sacred Sword: I’m drawn to these themes due to life experiences of fighting for what I believe in and having heroes in my life who do the same. I think standing up for what’s right in the face of danger is inspiring and when humanity is at it’s best.

Q13: Beyond The Eternal Realm Falls, where do you see the mythology of Sacred Sword travelling next, and what remains unexplored within the Eternal Realm?

Sacred Sword: I would like to explore more stories of the trials that the lone knight faces both physically and mentally and sometimes both. I also have plans to explain more of the mythos behind how this world became corrupted and the beings behind it.

If there’s anything you’d like to add — your creative process, or something we haven’t touched on — please feel free to do so here.

Sacred Sword: I would just like to say thanks for these awesome questions and thanks to everyone who has listened to my single so far. I am working on the album and cant wait to share it with you all when its done.

This closes the interview. The rite is complete — the voice of Sacred Sword now etched into the archive of sin.

I extend my deepest thanks to Sacred Sword for sharing their voice — and to the reader, for bearing witness to this craft-rite.
